جزيرة تينيريف ( Tenerife) أكبر هذه الجزر، الغنية عن التعريف في أوروبا
والعالم أجمع، فهي من المحطات السياحية الرئيسية والمهمة في إسبانيا والأطلسي
وأفريقيا القريبة، فهي لا تبعد أكثر من ألف كيلومتر عن إسبانيا و330 كيلومترا عن
الساحل الأفريقي والمغرب.

وفضلا عن أنها أكبر جزر المجموعة، ويصل طول شواطئها لنحو 340 كيلومترا
(منها 67 كلم من الشواطئ الصالحة للاستخدام والاستجمام، فهي أيضا أكثرها
اكتظاظا بالسكان، إذ يبلغ عدد سكانها نحو 900 ألف نسمة ينتشرون على مساحة
تصل إلى 2034 كيلومترا مربعا .
